Une passion qu'a suscité la Finlande chez moi, ce sont les "puukko", les couteaux finnois; il ya de nombreux fabriquants qui rivalisent d'originalité, surtout dans le choix des matériaux du manche et dans le design du fourreau. Mon cousin Jouni m'a proposé un matin d'août 2006, de jouer les forgerons et de réaliser un puukko ancienne manière, qui était un couteau de femmes et qu'elles utilisaient dans la vie de tous les jours. Le manche permettait de le suspendre facilement à sa ceinture. Nous sommes partis d'un jonc de fer rond que j'ai martelé à chaud pour lui donner une section carrée, puis que j'ai recourbé pour faire le manche, et mon cousin a fait la lame rectangulaire (trop difficile pour un débutant comme moi).

Another passion that Finland gave me, is the "puukko", the finnish knives; there are a lot of makers who take the challenge of being original in building handles or sheaths. My cousin Jouni made a blacksmith out of me, in august 2006, by making an old fashionned puuko, a woman's one that they used in every day life, the shape of the handle allowed them to hang it to their belt. We started from a round section steel stick that i hammered red hot to get it square, i bent it to make the handle, and my cousin did the blade (too difficult for a beginner like me).

Le premier en partant de la gauche, fait partie du costume national finnois. Celui du milieu est une production d'un bijoutier et se rapporte au Kalevala, le pays des légendes finlandaises, et possède une tête d'oiseau au bout du manche (il se peut que je vous raconte un jour...). Le troisième est une production de mon cousin Jouni, il m'a dit que l'épaisseur de sa lame en faisait un couteau de chasseur pour dépecer les ours.

The first one from the left, is a part of the Finnish national suit. The one in the middle is made by a finnish jeweller and is linked to the Kalevala, the finnish land of legends, and has a bird head on top of its handle (i may tell you one day...). The third one was made by my cousin Jouni, it is a hunter's one, he told me that the thickness of the blade was good to tear up bears.
